Question 7: Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

My prelim:

In order to answer this question I recorded my thoughts on the answer in a video:

Main Points made in the video:

  • I discussed the brief for each task.
  • The pre-production  that I did for the prelim was a solid basis of knowledge to scale up for the main task.
  • The main task's pre-production was more research based where as the prelim was more planing based
  • The Prelim was good practice for doing the paper work which we had to do, the skills we learnt by organising this helped us to keep organised for the bigger project
  • We had to do a recce in order to make sure our location for the main shoot was suitable
  • Story boarding was a bigger task the second time, as there were around 4 times as many frames to draw, however we learnt through practice how to draw the frames at a faster pace and so the workload did not seem as much.
  • Running the shoot was similar both times. Thanks to the prelim, we knew by the main shoot that we needed to take many different shots of the same thing in order to have enough footage to edit together a sequence
  • The main shoot gave us the freedom of open spaces and isolation from interruption which was helpful
  • Punctuality was an issue for our main project as some people were late to the shoots
  • Weather was  the biggest problem during our main shoots as due to unanticipated poor weather we had to cancel a shoot.
  • Working as a team was harder during the main shoot as there was one less of us and a bigger workload to delegate, however we used the skills we had learnt from the prelim in order to help with this
  • Editing was longer during the main task due to VFX, however thanks to the prelim, the actual composing of the footage which didn't contain VFX was smooth and quick.
  • While evaluating the prelim helped us to think critically about our own work, evaluating the main task was much longer than evaluating the prelim.
  • We learnt that as you scale a project up the workload becomes more stressful, but it gives you freedom to demonstrate your own ideas and work creatively
